Dental Implants Q & A
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants offer the ultimate solution when it comes to complete tooth replacement because implants are permanently anchored to your jawbone and therefore produce a natural look with proper function. Implants can be used to replace one or more missing teeth and are another alternative to bridges or partials that look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth.
What are the Benefits of Implant Dentistry?
Dental implants offer many benefits over removable teeth replacements. Implants are anchored into the jawbone (osseointegrated), so there is no need to worry about compromising adjacent or surrounding natural teeth. Having implants reduces the chance of further bone loss. Bone loss can ultimately cause the loss of support for facial features and contours and increase the aged appearance of the face. Implant dentistry will provide you with added confidence while speaking, eating, and living your best life. With today’s technological advancements and the expertise Dr. Donia provides, implants look as natural as your own teeth. Implants emerge from the gum with a natural color and profile that fits your smile, just like your natural teeth.
Will Dental Implants Work for Me and, if so, What is the Process?
Dr. Donia was to evaluate a variety of factors before proceeding with implants such as health status and the amount of bone required to completely the treatment with success. If you are deemed eligible, Dr. Donia will determine where the implant can be placed by using x-rays. In some cases, you may be referred to an oral surgeon or specialist for the next step in treatment.
Your next visit will be for the actual placement of the implant into the bone. During this visit, the precise position is determined by Dr. Donia, the implant will be placed, and the gums are sutured back over the implant. You will then go through a healing period of approximately 4-6 months while the implant becomes osseointegrated, or “fixed” into the bone.
After the healing period, you will come back to Dr. Donia’s office for placement of the abutment (the post on which your crown will “sit”), the dr will take impressions to make your final cosmetic crown which will be a virtual replica of a natural tooth.
